Quintana Roo México

Map of Quintana Roo Mexico

Quintana Roo is one of the 31 states which together with the City of Mexico form the 32 federal areas of Mexico.

It is situated on the east of the Yucatan peninsula, on the border with Central America. Quintana Roo borders the states of Yucatán to the northwest and Campeche to the west; to the north by the Gulf of Mexico; to the south the Hondo River delimits its border with Belize and stone markers placed on its mountain range (Las Mojoneras) delimit its border with Guatemala. The beaches on the east of its territory are bathed by the waters of the Caribbean Sea, and this is why this state is known worldwide as the "Mexican Caribbean". Its most populated areas are Cancún, Chetumal, Playa del Carmen and San Miguel de Cozumel. Along with South Baja California it is the youngest state in the country (both promoted to federal states, on October 8, 1974) and since 1997 has had a boundary dispute with the states of Yucatan and Campeche, for an approximate area of 10,200 km².
